The important thing is what the pressing does rather than how it looks. Because this is an oxford, instep height matters. The facings should sit close but not touching when the shoe is laced. Wide apart means the shoe is too small across the instep and wear will not fix it; touching means it is too big.

Grained leather is also slightly stiffer than smooth calf and gives less across the first month, because the embossing has compacted the fibers. What to wear them with

Charcoal, mid gray and navy business suits, all year. Gray flannel in winter, where the texture of the shoe and the texture of the cloth agree with each other.
