How this derby is built
Goodyear welted, so the sole is stitched to the upper through a leather welt and can be resoled by any cobbler for years of wear. The waist is fiddle back, hand shaped to a narrow bevelled arch that shows the maker took the time, a feature usually reserved for far more expensive shoes. Open derby lacing gives room across the instep, and each pair is made to order so the width can be adjusted before cutting.
