Men's Shoe Styles in This Collection
Most men need three or four styles to cover every occasion: a formal lace up, a relaxed lace up, a slip on and a boot. Compare them here, then open the full collection for the style you need.
| Style | What sets it apart | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Oxford shoes | Closed lacing, sleek and formal | Suits, weddings, the office |
| Derby shoes | Open lacing, roomier over the instep | Smart casual, wider feet |
| Loafers | Laceless slip on: penny, tassel, Belgian | Chinos, summer, travel |
| Monk strap shoes | Buckle closure, single or double strap | Tailoring with personality |
| Men's boots | Chelsea, chukka, zip and jodhpur | Fall, winter, dark denim |
| Norwegian shoes | Hand stitched split toe apron | Country and weekend wear |
What You Pay for in Luxury Men's Shoes
Two pairs can look identical in a photo and last very different lengths of time. The price of a good shoe sits in two places you cannot see on screen: the grade of leather and the way the sole is attached.
Full Grain Leather vs "Genuine Leather"
Full grain keeps the strongest outer layer of the hide, so it creases gracefully and takes a shine. "Genuine leather" sounds premium but is one of the lowest grades sold, and it cracks rather than ages.
Goodyear Welted vs Blake Stitched vs Cemented
| Construction | How the sole attaches | Resoleable | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goodyear welted | Stitched to a leather welt | Yes, many times | Daily wear, longevity, wet weather |
| Blake stitched | Stitched through the insole | A few times, by a specialist | Slim, light dress shoes |
| Cemented | Glued to the upper | Rarely | Low price, short life |
Every pair we make is Goodyear welted, which is why our shoes are built to be resoled rather than replaced.
How Our Custom Men's Shoes Work
Most luxury brands sell finished stock in standard sizes. We cut nothing until you order, so your pair is made for you.
- Choose a style, your US size and a width from D to EEE.
- Add options such as shoe trees, steel toe tabs or a half rubber sole.
- Want a different leather, color or detail? Use our made to order service.
- Your pair is cut, hand lasted and welted in 10 to 14 days, then ships with tracking.
- Unworn pairs can be returned or exchanged within 15 days.
Choosing Men's Dress Shoes by Occasion
| Occasion | Shoe to reach for | Color |
|---|---|---|
| Business and formal | Cap toe or wholecut oxford | Black, dark brown |
| Wedding guest or groom | Wingtip oxford, monk strap | Brown, burgundy, patina |
| Smart casual office | Derby, penny loafer | Brown, tan, navy |
| Weekend and travel | Suede loafer, chukka boot | Tan, gray, olive |
Fit, Sizing and Wide Widths
- Order your true dress shoe length; never size up to gain width.
- Choose D for average feet, E or EE for wider feet, EEE for very wide feet or high insteps.
- A new pair should feel snug, not tight; leather and cork settle within two to three weeks.
- Check our shoe size guide or send your measurements if you are between sizes.
FAQs
Are luxury men's shoes worth the money?
They are when the price pays for materials and construction rather than a logo. A well made pair uses full grain leather and a stitched welt, so it molds to your foot, takes polish and can be resoled several times. Worn in rotation with cedar shoe trees, that pair can last a decade or more, while a glued shoe is usually thrown away when the sole wears through. Judged by cost per wear, a quality pair often costs less over time.
Can I get custom men's shoes made to my design?
Yes. Every shoe in this collection is already made to order in your size and width, and our made to order service goes further: you can change the leather, color, sole or details of an existing style, or send us a reference photo of the design you want. We confirm the details and price with you before anything is cut, then the pair is hand lasted and Goodyear welted in our workshop. Production takes 10 to 14 days before shipping.
Is Goodyear welted better than Blake stitched?
Each has a purpose. A Goodyear welt stitches the sole to a leather strip around the shoe, which adds a layer of cork for comfort, improves water resistance and allows many resoles. Blake stitching sews straight through the insole, giving a slimmer, more flexible shoe that can usually be resoled fewer times and needs a specialist cobbler. Many Italian luxury brands use Blake construction. If longevity and everyday wear are the priority, Goodyear welting is the stronger choice.
How do I get the right fit when ordering shoes online?
Measure both feet in the evening, standing, in the socks you plan to wear, and compare the longer foot with our size guide. Order your normal dress shoe length and choose your width separately, from D to EEE, rather than sizing up. A good fit feels snug across the widest part of the foot with about a thumb's width in front of the toes, and the heel lifts only slightly. If you are between sizes, send us your measurements before ordering.
How long do handmade leather shoes last?
With basic care, handmade Goodyear welted shoes commonly last ten years or more. The upper is rarely what fails; the sole and heel wear down, and on a welted shoe a cobbler can replace both several times. Rest each pair for a day between wears, keep cedar shoe trees inside, condition the leather every month or two and have the sole replaced before the wear reaches the welt. Rotating two or three pairs makes every pair last longer.
